Spring Skirts With Loft Outlet

April showers brings May flowers… and spring skirts!  Now that we’ve got warming temps the spring skirts are in full effect.  This year I picked up a few new from my local Loft Outlet.  If you are in the greater Sacramento area, head over to the the Folsom Premium Outlets and check out my friends at the Loft outlet!  Not only will they hook you up with some great customer service, they’ll also fit you up right!

Navy Crochet Skirt From Loft Outlet

Navy Crochet Skirt From Loft Outlet

Out of my Loft Outlet finds, this navy crochet skirt has to be one of my fav’s.  This is actually something that can work year round!  For spring I paired it with a chambray top (also Loft Outlet) but will look equally as cute with a sleeveless blouse for summer or a sweater come fall.

Chambray Navy Skirt Combo

Maybe I’m already in Week O’Nautical mood, but there’s something so clean about navy and white, which is why I LOVE this skirt paired with white accessories.  I took some super trendy white accents and paired them with an otherwise more conservative look.  Thought you couldn’t wear the lucite heels trend?  Well, you’re wrong!  Try these mark. So Clear To Me Sandals with your spring skirts as a way to wear the trend.   The mark. Total Perfection Bag is also the perfect spring/summer bag to add to your collection this year.

3 Ways To Wear Your LBD!

3 Ways To Wear A LBD

3 Ways To Wear A LBD

I’ve been featuring all things LBD inspired by the newest fragrance from Avon.  For my last installment, today, I’m bringing you 3 ways to wear your little black dress!  You know, just in case you needed more proof why a little black dress is super versatile.  Here are 3 different looks all with a LBD as the base from Jackie, Jill and myself!

Jackie:

Jackie's Way on a LBD

Jackie’s Way

Black as a neutral is just about as groundbreaking as florals for spring, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to be talked about! I am a New Yorker and I love my all black outfits as much as the next girl, but adding bold elements to a simple black base is way more fun. When you start with a plain black chiffon dress as the base of your outfit the options are pretty much endless. A fringe bag, bold printed scarf and snake skin accessories may not seem like the greatest combination, but somehow look completely cohesive (and still cool & casual) when you see it together!

Jill:

Jill's Way

Jill’s Way

For me, the key to styling a Little Black Dress, is to keep it simple. Black dresses remind me of Audrey Hepburn and her elegant yet simple style. To keep things Audrey style, let the dress be the statement. Keep your jewelry simple with just one statement piece such as a gold and rhinestone bracelet. Also keeping things Audrey style, go with a pretty flat. For a fun twist, try a flat with a pop of color such as cobalt blue.

Because a little black dress is basic and neutral,  pick one with spunk, like these cutout details!  You might feel it would be too much if this was on a printed dress but on a black dress it’s the perfect statement.  The versatility all comes down to the accessories, and I love accessories, they always fit!  I can get the most out of my statement pieces when wearing a little black dress.   Statement shoes like these aqua cutout and lace up sandals from Avon work with it and don’t compete.  Layer on some fun jewelry from mark. (they always have fun jewelry you want to wear !) and you’ve got a look that’s simple and wearable for any occasion.

How To Make An Old LBD New Again

Erica from Erica’s Fashion and Beauty and I have collaborated to show you two ways to make that old little black dress you have in your closet new again!  We both shopped our closet and took an old piece and made it new for spring.

Erica’s LBD Look:

“Sometimes the best shopping can be done in your own closet! It is a fun challenge to give a forgotten clothing item new life by adding trendy accessories or a modern piece. My outdated LBD is a boring one-shoulder dress. It is amazing what a few Avon accessories, fabulous red lips, and a jacket can do for an outfit!”

Shopping my closet allowed me to take this old sleeveless mark. dress and make it new again by layering a collared shirt underneath.  Not only did it breath new life into my existing items it also created a wear to work style perfect for spring weather with the convertible sleeves.  Adding on the Avon Style Swap Ocean Ave Necklace gave it a little more sophistication and the mark. clutch and shoes made it fun!  This LBD look will easily be recreated again!

Spring Re-Vamp With A Convertible Sleeve Blouse

Spring Re-Vamp With A Convertible Sleeve Blouse

I’ve seen this trick, layering a blouse under a sleeveless dress, done by all the fashion girls, but I never though I could pull it off.  However, just trying it payed off!  A tip is to wear a cami, like an Express Best Loved Bra Cami, over the blouse to keep it in place and avoid bulk underneath your dress.

Wearing the Avon Style Swap Ocean Ave Necklace tight around the collar is also a little trendy trick.  On a dress I normally wouldn’t wear a necklace with I added just the pearls of this necklace.  For a little pop I added a bright spring lip with mark. Wear The Wide Leg Trend: mark. Navy Gazing Pants

Wear The Wide Leg Trend: mark. Navy Gazing Pants

Wear The Wide Leg Trend: mark. Navy Gazing Pants

A big trend this year is a swing back to wide legs and flare leg pants. I have to say I’m totally in support of this. Flare legs work better with my curvy shape so selfishly I like this. Wide legs are WAY more comfortable than peeling off those skinny pants that leave indentations on you, but they can be tricky to wear. Here are a few tips on wearing the wide leg trend.

Wide Leg Pants For Spring

Wide Leg Pants For Spring

The biggest thing to think of is proportion.  Wide legged pants can look good with a loose flowy top or a slim fitted one the point is to get the right proportion for you.  Because I am short and curvy a slim top fits best.  If you are more on the athletic build then a loose flowy top like the mark. light and layered top works well.  If you are pear shaped a cropped top loose or fitted would flatter.  Either of these styles can be worked on any body type the items just need to be proportioned to you.  In this look I went with a light spring sweater in a metallic grey from Express.  I tucked it in to keep it slim.

Lightweight Sweater Keeps It Looking Slim

Lightweight Sweater Keeps It Looking Slim

I really like these mark. Navy Gazing Pants not only for the comfortable, lightweight material but also the deep navy shade and pockets!  These ones are the perfect pants for spring.  Functionally and fashion wise.  The have a side zip and a banded waist band.  The lightweight material is like a gauze making them really functional as the weather warms up.

Spring Details

Spring Details

Going back to proportions, the silhouette of wide leg pants really can carry bigger accessories, like a large cuff bracelet, statement necklace and oversized bag. These are all “larger” pieces but all worn together they work.  I’m wearing my spring fav the mark. Grows On You Bracelet with and old mark. necklace but you can get the same look with the mark. Free and Clear necklace.  My bag is the mark. Carry All Handbag (last seen here and here).

Wearing wide legs is not as intimidating as you might think if you get the proportions right.  I think they’re a must have to add this spring.  Plus they’re really really REALLY comfy.   Spring can be chilly so a pair of pants in an updated silhouette makes sense.  As the weather warms up I’ll ditch the spring sweater and leopard flats for an open lace top and sandals.  In addition to my spring outfit here get the deets on my spring makeup here in this post!

Warm Layers:

Lucky for us folks who are always cold turtlenecks are back in!  And they’re the perfect layering piece.  Layering a turtleneck under a chic cape is a modern way to wear winter layers.  This mark. Outside Chance Cape in it’s Aspen chic print layers perfectly over a black and white striped turtleneck for a cozy winter look.

Tall Boots:

Lots of Layers

Lots of Layers

It’s like layers for your legs!  The extra insulation helps ward off winter’s cold while looking super chic!  I like a good heeled one but there are so many cute flat boots or even a mini heel.  Mine are an old pair from Shoedazzle but check out a few tall boots I like here, here and here.

When wearing lots of layers, accessories sometimes get lost.  Try layering a long necklaces over your layers, it won’t add bulk to your already bulky layers and helps draw the eye down keeping a long and lean look.  I like this mark. Feathered Friends Necklace which will work just as well in the winter/spring/summer/fall.   This winter try layered earrings like these mark. Ruffle Your Feathers Earring Set, ear jackets and cuffs are a huge trend this year. Finish off your look with a bag big enough for a long winter weekend with the mark. Carry All Handbag

“The Holidays are the perfect time to break out the winter color palette. Think whites, greys and light blues. To help keep you warm, throw on a faux fur vest. The “make me plush vest” by mark is just perfect with it’s faux fur collar and super soft, short faux fur lining. Then, to finish things off, you can’t go wrong with a great pair of booties.”  (read more)

This winter try a little apres ski with your look.  Think cozy, cute and comfy for lounging in a chic cabin or lodge.  This winter the Aspen chic look is trending, try it with key pieces like an aztec print cape and faux fur vest like in Jill’s look.  You can shop these pieces here.

Fall Styling Tips – Back To School

Fall Styling Tips: Back To School

Fall Styling Tips: Back To School

Regardless if you’re heading back as a student, a parent of a student or as a student of life it’s back to school time!  Each fall the new school year brings about a refresh.  As a student it’s always a clean slate to start with new trends, friends and self.  As a parent of a student it’s a new start on organization, time schedules and socials.  As a student of life, just like the air getting a little crisper it’s a time to crisp up your fashion, organization and functionality!  That’s why Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up once again to bring you a fresh fall styling tips for a going back to school look.

1. Take On A Trend

Taking On The 90's Trend

Taking On The 90’s Trend

The new school year is the best time to try out something trendy because you know after the fist month you’re going to fall back into what’s quick and easy so try the trend now.  90’s is having a major moment but you don’t have to 15 to be trendy.  For my look I kept it age appropriate by sticking to a black and white pallet.  I tied my 90’s plaid shirt (Target) around my marble print t-shirt dress (mark. Soft T Dress, last seen here).  Because nothing about me is grunge in the slightest bit so my look is more Clueless than 90’s grunge.  (you know you’re thinking of that gym scene).

Fall Is The Perfect Time To Be A Little Trendy

2.  Keep It Functional

Comfort and functionality are back to school must-haves… and a good back pack!  A t-shirt dress is the perfect solution, comfortable, cute and functional.  mark. Soft T Dress is the perfect easy to wear addition for your back to school shopping.  And what’s back to school without a good backpack!?  This mark. Draw To A Close bag is both functional and sleek so it works from high school to work and everywhere in between.  The detachable straps allow you to wear it as a back pack, cross body or over the shoulder so you can maximize your functionality all fall.

3.  Wear Walkable Footwear

Mint Converse Were Made For Walking

Walking to and from school, class, picking up the kids, taking them to practice or just normal life requires a more functional shoe sometimes.  Co-eds sport chucks like it’s no body’s business and they do so for a reason.  Functional, cute and goes with a-plenty.  I personally elected to go with a more fun color like my mint converse which add just the right pop against my black and white.  And doesn’t hurt they match my Tiffany & Co sunglasses!

4.  Layer It Up

Layer Up With A Plaid Shirt Over Your T-Shirt Dress

Layer Up With A Plaid Shirt Over Your T-Shirt Dress

Here’s what I hated.  I would sweat like a mo fo walking to class in the hot indian summer days then freeze inside the class room.  Layers solve this problem. I can easily un-tie the plaid shirt and put it on to battle too much AC and chilly mornings/evenings.  Layers are a fall must-have… going back to that functionality thing.

5.  Accessorize Lightly

With all the moving and shaking back to school brings lightweight jewelry just works.  Daintier pieces are not only on trend this season but work with whatever you’re wearing and don’t get in the way.  I’ve been wearing these mark. All Four It bracelet set pretty much on the daily and you can see why.  Easy and goes with everything.  With the crew neck style of this dress try wearing a choker style necklace for an updated version of the 90’s classic.  These mark. As we enter the last two weeks of spring into the official start of summer let’s embrace this beautiful weather.  Lucky for us we had a few styling tips from Jill from My Sweet Obsession and myself this spring.  If you missed them they were:  Easter, Spring Layers, and Spring Colors.  We shared how we style these trends in the spring… but cool… great… nice outfit, now what?  Here’s a little how to apply these tips in your every day dressing.  I took Jill’s tips from her Spring Layers post and applied them to my look.

Jill suggested the mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak, or a anorak jacket in general to keep you ready for whatever spring weather may bring.  It’s a lightweight jacket but also functional with a hood and adjustable sleeves.  So that’s just what I did, wore the mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Jacket.

Next Jill suggested layering lightweight scarf to help with chilly mornings and nights, by wearing it loose it doesn’t make you too hot.  I added the oversized mark. Four Seasons Scarf (now only $7.99!!!) for a spring floral print in a lightweight spring fabric.

With the warmer weather Jill suggests going with simpler jewelry instead of your statement pieces so that’s just what I did with layering two simple bracelets (express and mark.) with my watch (avon).  The layered look still gives impact while keeping things simple and functional.

Jills tips for layering this spring were easy to follow and apply.  I mean why read all these OOTD blog posts if you don’t get inspired and apply them to your own looks!?  It was Jill’s look that inspired me to order the mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak and I’M SO GLAD I did!  It’s the perfect “IT” jacket missing from my closet and I’ve worn it a ton!  I can see it being a go-to all summer long especially for those cooler summer nights our around the bon fire or camping, etc.  I know in PA you ALWAYS needed a light jacket in the summer and I never had the right one!

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Colors

How To Style Spring Colors

How To Style Spring Colors

It’s already May but spring feels like it just hit.  Time to lighten and brighten everything, from spring cleaning to fresh highlights to your wardrobe!  Introducing spring colors into your wardrobe is a great way to lighten and brighten your look.   Color not your thing?  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I are back with our Spring Style Tips on how to wear spring colors.

1.  Pick a pastel.

Pastel Pieces for Spring

Pastel Pieces for Spring

Nothing is more springy than a spring pastel.  Like I mentioned in yesterday’s post pastel blues, greens, aqua’s are huge this season but the thing with pastels is there a version of every color so there’s sure to be something you like.

2.  Start with a piece you love.

If you love something you’re more inclined to wear it.  I absolutely fell in love with this Avon Fancy Flora Collection Earrings and Necklace!  It’s retro 60’s design in spring pastel colors is right up my ally.  Plus it pairs perfectly with my favorite pastel blue blouse.  I just love the way this blouse fits, the color and the gold details.  It’s an old find from LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s but this all over color is a lot easier to wear because I absolutely love it!

3.  Try just a pop of color.

Go with a pop of color or all over!

Go with a pop of color or all over!

I’m not one to shy away from color but I do find myself wearing a lot of neutrals like black and white on the daily.  That’s when just a pop of color is needed and achieved with the Avon Fancy Flora Collection Earrings and Statement Necklace.  The pretty pastels add just enough color to feel springy even on your most basic of basics.

Not sure what to wear your spring colors with?  Try lace or crochet!  Not only is it huge this year (as it was last year) but it can also be classic.  I’m wearing a lace pencil skirt with my pastel blue blouse and Avon Fancy Flora Collection Jewelry for a look that’s more than appropriate for work.  However, I could switch it out for some crochet shorts and be weekend ready!

The Must-Have Spring (and beyond) Jacket – mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak

Your Must-Have Jacket For Spring

Your Must-Have Jacket For Spring

Everyone and their mother has a list of must-haves, wardrobe staples, etc, etc… but there are actually are a few things that pop up on all those lists every time for a reason!  One of those is an anorak jacket.  Not only is it functional, but it’s also super on trend and also a classic.  (is that an oxymoron?)  I own safari type jackets that are similar but not a true anorak.  Then mark. came out with this Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak and I was smitten.  But do I really need another jacket?  I really don’t like army green, is this really a must-have?  Well, after seeing a billion awesome looks on pinterest and reading a million different must-haves, wardrobe staples, etc, etc lists I decided yes I need another jacket!  So glad I did because even if it’s not my ideal color this is my ideal jacket!  Honestly, you never really have buyers remorse on a jacket, it will last you years and you can wear it every day if you really want to.

mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak

mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak

The mark. Luck Of The Drawstring Anorak is a true anorak style.  It has a longer length, multiple pockets and a hood.  What sets this one apart is it’s ruching details on the sleeves and the ability to cinch it at the waist.  The material is a nice weight, canvas like cotton so not only will it look chic on but it will withstand the elements.

Let’s call it like it is, this really isn’t an Alicia jacket.  I’m not really casual and as stated I’m not a huge fan of army green.  But you know what is very Alicia?  Pairing it with a lace pencil skirt!  Pairing 2 very different styles pays off, because how cute are these 2 together?!  The mix of casual and dressy achieves a very wearable and approachable look.  You could also recreate this look with some white crochet shorts for summer of even lace/crochet pants that are trendy right now.  This just shows the versatility out of such a classic jacket.

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring Styling Tips: Spring Layers

Spring has sprung, but if you’re anything like me you still kinda feel like you’re wearing the same old things you’ve been sporting all winter.  Just because the weather is colder in the morning and at night doesn’t mean that you need to still be wearing those winter sweaters.  The key is layering!  And layering in spring fashion!  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have teamed up to break out of the cycle with some tips on styling spring layers.

A Layered Look For Spring

1.  Start with a cool “bottom layer”

Start with your bottom layer being something cool enough for the warmest temps, like a romper or tank, shorts, etc.  In full afternoon sun an easy romper like this mark. Easy Does It Romper is effortless and cool.  Being solid navy it layers well with neutrals and prints, making it a no-brainer for your spring wardrobe.  Plus its lined!  The quality on this one is spot on!

2.  It’s All About The Fabric

Layered Spring Fabrics

When layering putting the right pieces together comes down to the right fabrics.  In the spring you want to layer lightweight fabrics so things don’t get too bulky and look out of season.  A lightweight button down shirt (Loft) under a spring blazer work (mark.) well together.  If I were to put a winter weight blazer instead, it would of been too much.  Plus, you don’t want to feel like a fat man in a little coat, you want it to be easy breezy spring-tastic!

3.  Layer more than one layer!

Instead of donning just a blazer over the romper I layered a chambray shirt too!  Not only does it give the look dimension and interest, it also is functional.  Sometimes it’s just a little too warm for a jacket but still need something, so take off the blazer and just sport the layered chambray over your bottom layer.  That’s the best part about spring, you can wear those pinterest-worthy styles and not get too hot and get more mileage out of your wardrobe.

4.  Spring Neutrals Layer Nicely

When layering multiple pieces think about the color family.  Keeping a like color scheme will keep the look put together and not hodge podge.  Navy, denim and tan are all neutrals that work well together in the blue family.  You could also work in a print (like a printed button down) but stay in the same family grouping even in you’re going with an eye-popping color (try yellow with this look!).  Leopard is a neutral too!  Classic leopard print is in neutral colors so these chic mark. Hit The Spot leather flats work well for a spring look!

Now’s the time to bust out your straw hats, beachy bracelets, and shimmering spring accessories!  Spring layers don’t stop at your clothes, layer your necklaces, like the mark. Twice As Nice necklace set layered with the longer mark. Cube Effect Necklace.  Layered on top of my look is a straw fedora with chambray striped detail from Loft with a shimmering neutral snakeskin clutch (mark.).  My favorite layer though, is layered on my lips!  A bright coral lip compliments a navy neutral look and just screams spring with the mark.
