Christmas Makeup – Emerald Eyes

Under a week until Christmas and the excitement is building!  I CAN’T WAIT for that warm and fuzzy feeling that only Christmas Eve magic can achieve!  I still have shopping to do and gifts to wrap but one thing for sure is I have plenty of inspiration for my Christmas look.  I have ideas on what to wear (here, here, here, and here!.. whew!), what to do with my nails (here and here) and now a makeup look perfect for Christmas through New Years!

Emerald Eyes and Melon Lip

Emerald Eyes and Melon Lip with mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet

Inspired by Chloe Morello’s look I recreated an emerald eye with a melon lip, perfect for this holiday season!  I’m completely different tone than Chloe, plus I like a winged liner and don’t want to spend $30 on a single eyeshadow (that I can’t even find by the way, I looked).  Instead, I rather spend $16 on a whole pallet to recreate the look using mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet.  Here’s my take on recreating an emerald eye for the holidays.

Eyes:  With a smokey dark eye, its best to do the eyes first, before the rest of the face for easy cleanup of any fall out.  Start with a primer, Avon Eyeshadow Primer.  Then using the included sponge applicator use shade 1 from the mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet (top left) all over your lid.  Use an eyeshadow brush and blend in shade 2 (top middle).  Use a stiff brush (I used the mark eyeliner brush) in shade 3 (top right) and accent the outer v in the darkest green shade.  Use a soft blending brush to blend in the socket and right outside of it so there are no harsh lines (I used Avon’s Pro Crease Brush).  This next step is optional, but dab on a little gold eyeshadow concentrating in the middle of the eye ( I used mark. Eye Dream Of Glam pallet for this).  Like I said, I like a winged eyeliner so I used that same eyeliner brush that I used in my outer v for my eyeliner by wetting the brush and dipping it in shade 3 (top right) and shade 9 (bottom right) in that same mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet to line my eyes and wing it out.  Under my eyes I used a little bit of shade 2 smoked out around my bottom lashes.  For the last finishing tough I highlighted my inner corner and brow bone with shade 7 (bottom left, white).

Face:  Avon Ideal Flawless Liquid Foundation ($12) with a little conturing using Avon Glow Bronzing Powder and mark. Just Blushing in Cameo.  For a highlighter, mark. Touch and Glow just on the high points of my cheeks.

Lips:  A more matte or creamy natural lip with melon tones looks really good with this eye.  Plus if you’re wearing black it really makes the whole look pop!  Use Avon Ultra Color Absolute Lipstick in Creamy Melon.

All it takes is a little inspiration for the perfect look to come together.  I love love love the look Chloe created but my take works for me.  Are you inspired to re-create this look?  $16 for a whole pallet to re-create this look and more!  You can get the mark. On The Dot Smokey Pallet and all the mark. and Avon products I used here:  http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger  and don’t forget about that FREE 2 DAY SHIPPING promo code 2DAYSHIP going on now!  Get the products you need to finish out your holiday beauty look!

Avon Nail Art Design French Tips

Avon Nail Art Design French Tips

For my holiday party this weekend I’ll be wearing these Avon Nail Art Design French Tips in Let It Snow and using them again in Tartan for Christmas Eve!  All you do is use your favorite shade as your base.  Then apply the nail art strip after it’s dried.  Place it higher on the nail if you want a typical french tip look or lower to show just a little for a half moon mani look.  Could even just use these just as an accent nail.  Either way they’re fun and festive and a level of detailed design I could never do on own!  Aaaaand they’ve been marked down to $2.99 so take advantage of that free 2-day shipping and get these NOW!  (http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger)

10.  Nude with gold tips.

This is just too pretty!  To recreate the look go with a nude that’s a little more on the pink side and make your gold french tips super slim.  Try Essie Penny Talk for the tips!

9.  DIY Buffalo Plaid

Easy enough to recreate after seeing the tutorial over at http://petitepeinture.com/julep-holiday-tartan-tutorial  Obviously I’ve been having a plaid moment this fall/winter!

My Wear and Share partner in crime, Jackie over at Living After Midnight, showed us her KILLER snowman mani.  Not only is this guy super festive, it’s great in snowy January as well!  I’m LOVING it paired with her striped top and emerald jewels too!

7.  Green and gold.

Our friends over at Sealaura already showed us how chic an all white mani can be, but let’s step it up a notch with a snowy white look!  Top Avon’s Gel Finish in Iceberg White with Essie LuxeEffects in Shine Of The Times for a glistening snowy white look… and maybe if you want, do a red accent nail like I did!

5.  Santa Nail Art!

Santa Nail Art

Santa Nail Art

This one looks easy enough to recreate!  Basically do a red nail with white french tip.  Where they meet draw a thin line in silver.  (Try using an old liquid eyeliner brush to get a super thin line!)  To do your Santa accent nail start by doing the beard first.  Let that dry, then do the red santa hat by just making a thick line.  After that dries, make small dots in a row for the top of the hat.  Dot on black eyes (try using a toothpick) and the nose and you’re done!  Seal it all with a topcoat!

4.  Blue Christmas – Avon Gel Finish Winter 2014 Shades

Avon Gel Finish in Iceberg White, Alaska and Inked Up (L to R)

For your non-typical holiday mani I’m loving these shades from Avon.  You already know I’ve been digging Iceberg White, but Inked Out and Alaska (now only $4.99!) are also perfect wintery shades.  Blue for the holidays has become a favorite and not just for Hanukkah!  If you want to make it a little more festive, top it with a silver glitter topcoat.

3.  Gold Stripes with Julep December Box:  Classic With A Twist

Julep always has the perfectly paired offering with their monthly box selections.  For December I went with the Classic With A Twist selection featuring Sienna and Ilga from the Count It Down collection.  I also added on the striping tape for a little holiday nail art.  This is the perfect set for the work week leading up to Christmas!

2. Presents

Holiday Styling Tips: New Years Eve

Holiday Styling Tips: New Year's Eve

Holiday Styling Tips: New Year’s Eve

If Christmas is only 9 days away that mean’s that New Years Eve is only in 17 days!  Time to start making plans and more importantly, what are you going to wear!?!  I feel New Year’s is one of those events that seem to always disappoint, but I also figured out there’s a few things to plan for that make it work out.  First is who you’re with, plan to spend it with good friends and/or family.  That way, doesn’t matter what you do, you’ll for sure have a fun night.  Secondly, is plan a special outfit.  You know if you at least dress up a little, then the night automatically feels special!  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have few tips to help with that last part, styling a New Years Eve outfit that will have you covered no matter if it’s for a night in or a night out!

What To Wear For New Years Eve

What To Wear For New Years Eve

1.  Pick A Party Dress!

mark. Grand Entrance Lace Dress

mark. Grand Entrance Lace Dress

This is THE opportunity to wear a party dress.  Even if you’re not a dress wearer, on New Years, you can be.   Most of us in real life don’t have too many occasions to dress up, so take the chance.  Even if your event isn’t something crazy, this is the night that being overdressed is completely acceptable.  My party dress pick is the mark. Grand Entrance Dress ($44).  With it’s fitted lace bodice and satin tulip skirt it’s a party perfect pick!

Lace Bodice on the mark. Grand Entrance Dress

2.  Keep It Comfortable.

Comfortable in the mark. Grand Entrance Dress

Comfortable in the mark. Grand Entrance Dress

You’re in for a long night and being super uncomfortable in an outfit you can’t move in and heels you can’t walk in just makes for a miserable NYE.  Pick a dress you can move, and dance, and sit in… and maybe one that hides the few pounds of Christmas cookies I’ve been eating.  That’s what I love about this mark. Grand Entrance Dress, it’s cut to flatter and be functional.  The waist is a litter higher hitting that sweet spot that’s the small part of our torso.  The tulip skirt allows you to move and prance, so you’ll be good with whatever comes your way… chasing kids to dance floor moves.

3.  Pile on the sparkle.

Sequin Clutch and mark. Opulent Charm Heels

Sequin Clutch and mark. Opulent Charm Heels

Last week’s tips on how to wear sparkles weren’t for a one time thing, you’ll definitely need them for NYE.  Again if there’s ever a time to go all out it’s NYE, and no one will judge you for it, believe me.  So bust out the sequin clutch (or again for me, last seen here.)  Pull out some statement earrings like these mark. Noir Essence Earrings, and stack on an arm party (kate spade bracelets).  Don’t forget the shoes!  I love the mark. Opulent Charm Heels so much from last week I had to bring them back.  They’re PERFECT for a party dress and NYE with their embellished detailing.  Plus they’re very comfortable and walkable, so the fit style tip #2 above.

4.  Amp Up Your Makeup.

Smokey Eye and Bold Lip for NYE

Smokey Eye and Bold Lip for NYE

NYE is the BEST time for a smokey eye and bold lip!  Spend a little extra time getting ready and pull out some of the best tricks like a smokey eye.  Key is sticking with formulas that will last all night.  mark. On The Dot Smokey ($18) and mark. On The Edge Eyeliner ($10) are top notch formulas.  Try a bold pink lip for a different look then that bold red you’ve been wearing.  Try Avon Extra Lasting Lipstick in Fearless Fuchsia.

5.  Have Fun!

Fun With The Pups!

Fun With The Pups!

The biggest tip for NYE is to have fun!  Pick something fun to wear, pair it with fun accessories and make the most of your night.  It’s all about stepping out of your norm and being a little extra-special just for one night.  It’s the last night of the year, go out with a bang!  You can shop my dress, earrings, shoes and makeup at my eBoutique:  http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

Holiday Styling Tips: Sparkle

Holiday Styling Tips: Sparkle

Holiday Styling Tips: Sparkle

Twinkling lights, shiny packages, glowing fires and glimmering ornaments, this time of year does nothing but sparkle!  So let’s match the season and sparkle a little more, and I’ll take any reason to sparkle a little bit more!  Jill from My Sweet Obsessions and I have a few tips on how to add some sparkle to your holiday looks.

1.  Pick A Statement Sparkle Piece.

Holiday Sparkle with mark.

Holiday Sparkle with mark.

This is the time of year where you can get away with going mega on the sparkle so why not go big or go home!   Bust out a sequin dress, sequin leggings or pick a statement sparkle piece like the mark. Chain Reaction Necklace ($50) which is nothing but major! (said like RZ).  With four rows of rhinestones outlined in a gunmetal chain in a deep Y design, this necklace has that IT factor.

mark. Chain Reaction Necklace

mark. Chain Reaction Necklace

2.  Showcase your sparkle piece with your outfit.

Showcase with the right neckline

Showcase with the right neckline

You’ll want to showcase that sparkle so pick an outfit that highlights.  With my sparkle piece, the mark. Chain Reaction Necklace, a wrap style LBD showcases the necklace.  With the Y shape a deep V or a wrap neckline is best.  Keeping my outfit simple in all black the major focus is on the necklace.  My dress is an old closet favorite but match it with the mark. Cross My Mind Dress ($42) for a similar effect.

Showcase Your Sparkle

3.  Choose some compatible sparkle.

mark. Opulent Charm Heels

mark. Opulent Charm Heels

Don’t stop at just the mark. Chain Reaction Necklace (even though by itself it would be killer!).  Pick a compatible piece like a sparkly cocktail ring and/or bracelet.  Try the mark. Dark Edge Ring ($20).  Don’t let your sparkle be top heavy, spread the love from the bottom to the top!  Add some sparkly shoes like these embellished pumps from mark., the Opulent Charm Heels ($65).  They’re the perfect holiday party shoe that will go with pretty much everything you put on this holiday season.  The black velvet and classic pump shape will make them go-to’s for holiday season’s to come.

4.  Balance it out with an all-over solid color

LBD and Black Tights for a Black Base

LBD and Black Tights for a Black Base

Will all the sparkle going on you’ll want to keep a solid base going.  I’m obviously a fan of black for the obvious reasons, but you could do the same with pretty much any solid color like with a winter white or a festive red.  I kept the look sleek with adding some black tights to my black dress.  Since it’s all about the sparkle lets go with the an opaque tight with a little sparkle graphic print down the leg for a little more holiday sparkle.  The mark. Attention To Detail Tights ($22) is a two pack including the one’s shown.  (a perfect stocking stuffer btw!)

5.  Add more sparkle.

Just when you think you’ve got your look ready, add more sparkle!  This is the time of year not to shy away.  This is really the season where wearing a sparkle headband, with the a majorly sparkly statement necklace, with a blinged out cocktail ring, with a subtle shimmery tight and embellished pumps is perfectly acceptable.  This mark. Sparkles On Top Headband is the perfect balance for any extra sparkle.

The Essentials All Girls Need In Their Lives

The bare necessities of life – ah, the stuff we girls just couldn’t live without. Naturally the girls nowadays will have a much different list of essentials for the girls from a few years ago, in fact as things progress therefore the list will inevitably change.

Here are a few essentials which most ladies (and very often boys) just could not live without:

• The internet – how on earth did we ever manage without it? Are you able to imagine trying to last a week, a day and even an hour without internet connection? It’s like somebody has chopped your arm off. If we needed to take an umbrella, without the internet we wouldn’t be able to function these days – we wouldn’t be able to shop, to find our way about, to communicate with this friends and family, to know what’s going on on earth – heck, we wouldn’t even know what the weather was like and. It seems that the times of looking out of the window to check whether it’s raining are long gone.

internet

• Cell phone – this sort of ties along with the internet. Not only do we demand that the internet is at our beck and call in any way hours from the night and day at home, we want it basically we are out and about as well. We want so as to send instant messages to family and friends, take a photo and have it whizzing through cyber space to show off to our own nearest and dearest. We want for the greatest Chinese restaurant within a half mile radius, know when our favorite boutique has a sale on and whether the train is going to be delayed for the journey home. You want it all and we want it NOW.

• Daily shower – “cleanliness is next to Godliness” my Grandmother used to say, and she only bathed once a week in front of the fire. Today we won’t step on the front door until we’ve experienced a nice hot shower to wake us up leaving us feeling fresh and clean. How times have changed.

• Makeup – this is definitely one for your girls. We have now this morning routine which cannot be broken – get up, go on a shower, do our hair and apply our makeup before even popping in the market to the store for a bottle of milk. Obviously it helps if our makeup is organized for quick application inside the mornings – a nice makeup brush holder keeping things tidy and a cosmetic organizer so that we can easily pick out the lipstick we have been in the mood for at a moment’s notice. If you’re interested, they’ve got some great products at thesalonoutlet.com.

• Dessert – dessert is definitely the ultimate comfort food, it kind of “mends everything”. It may mend a broken heart, it can raise your spirits following a sad experience; it can help to fill the void of loneliness on the Saturday night without a date. If you have the foresight to stick to dark chocolate it’s pretty good for you too – but maybe that’s going a bit too far. A lot of women find a sweet treat fits in perfectly after having a busy day.

desserts

• A cup of tea or coffee – how else can anyone get moving in the mornings? It takes no less than three servings of strong coffee for some before eyes are open and sufficiently focused to even attempt any one of the other things at the top of the list . . . and I’m sure it’s not just me.

Gift Guide: Things I Want To Buy Myself But End Up Gifting

The problem with this time of year is instead of shopping for my ever expanding Christmas list, I want to shop for myself!  I mean the deals are excellent and I always find things I never noticed before but I need!  What usually ends up happening is I buy the folks on my list things I would like!  It’s a win win situation… and maybe a dupe makes it into my shopping bag for myself too… ooopsies!  So let’s make a gift guide out of the things I want that are also great Christmas gifts for others!

I think a metallic clutch is pretty much a wardrobe staple, but this one also has a classic snakeskin pattern and a chain strap option!  Thinking this would be perfect for holiday outings, esp NYE, making it a great gift!  As a little gift-giving idea, wouldn’t it be great if this clutch was accompanied with some tickets!?  Ballet, concert or even just the movies!   And maybe a gift card to a favorite restaurant for a little diner and date night.

Boots are always a winning gift idea!  Plus everyone likes to have a little something new they can wear Christmas Day.  A classic riding boot, in a go with everything brown, is a fool proof idea.  Maybe pair it with one of those plaid blanket scarfs.

These sell out like crazy so lucky you if you can grab one up.  This is both something functional and pretty to look at.  Kate Spade as such a great aesthetic making tasking way more fun.

8.  Candles… lots and lots of candles!

Avon Scented Candles $9.99

Avon Scented Candles $9.99

There are so many options but I haven’t met a person who doesn’t like getting a candle.  It sets the mood for a perfect winter night.  I love a good holiday spice scent like the Avon Holiday Spice Scented Candle ($9.99).  It’s a scent that works well for January too.  Really cute to package up a candle with this matches pinterest project.  I did it last year and it turned out great and super easy to do!

9.  Nail Polish

Since I’m an adult and don’t get toys to play with on Christmas Day, I look forward to some nail polish in my stocking.  It gives me something to “play with.”  The mark. Nailed It Duo ($7) is again already packaged for the holiday and comes with 2 shades.  Sets are always better than a single.  Pair it with a nail file, base coat and/or top coat and a good hand cream like mark. Hand Cream ($6).  Could even go the extra mile and put it with a gift certificate to a nail salon.  Or if you’re looking for a good teacher/co-worker/etc gift putting some polish in a little bag with a note that reads “For Your Mistle Toes” is a cute idea!

10.  mark. Chain Reaction Necklace ($50)

Nothing says holidays like some major sparkle!  A full blinged out statement necklace will twinkle under those christmas lights and add that extra sparkle and fun.  It’s great as a gift because it’s not a necessity you typically buy for yourself but totally want!  And looks great with a LBD… if you’re looking for something to pair it with try the mark. Cross My Mind Dress ($42).

So, yea, basically I want to buy this all for myself so I’ll just buy it for all my well deserving friends and family.  Maybe Santa will deliver a few of these under my Christmas tree this year!
