First official mani Monday of September!  Typically this early in September I’m still wearing my summer brights but this year I’m embracing the fall trends early with deep smokey purples from the mark. Nails This Look Set ($28).  Even better pairing these on trend fall colors with a coordinating ring-to-wrist bracelet!  My go-to for a wanderlust August is continuing through September!

For my nail look I wore the more smokey grey plume shade (Shady Lady) with an accent nail in the deep purple (Plumsation) on my ring.  These shades are more matte so I left them sans topcoat.

These shades are totally up my ally.  I loved them so much I’ve worn them twice already!  Which is kind of a big deal since it’s still summer and super hot here causing me to typically be wearing my summer brights through October.  Plus they wear really well.

I’m a HUGE fan of the mark. Nail This Look Set’s (see here and here).  mark. coordinates the perfect little companion to your mani.  For under $30 you get TWO perfectly on trend shades and an accessory that will take you through the season.  Plus they’re just the right amount to use this season and be done and ready for the next by next season.  I think its just the perfect little pairing and a great way to spend a little on a big trend that you’ll love!  You can shop the mark. Week O’Nautical Labor Day Look

So sometimes life just gets in the way…   Like when you have full intentions on sharing your Week O’Nautical Labor Day edition looks but then don’t end up being on your computer at all and just enjoying the extra long weekend.  So here’s my favorite look and my favorite weekend moments!

Red White and Blue

Red White and Blue

The dress is a Target find that I thought was absolutely perfect for the summer holidays!  (you might remember it here).  It’s not the absolutely most flattering for my shape but I like it so much I’ll make it work… like by putting a cami (Tilly’s) underneath and tying on a gold belt (mark.).

Wanderlust August: Nevada Beach South Lake Tahoe

Nevada Beach South Lake Tahoe

Nevada Beach South Lake Tahoe

August is by far my favorite month of the year… it might be because I celebrate my birthday all month long!  A good friend starts the month off for her birthday and I continue it on until mine at the end of August.  This year we took a birthday day trip to Nevada Beach in South Lake Tahoe.

We originally planned to hit up Zephyr Cove however a very large wedding going on made that nearly impossible.  So went two beaches up to Nevada Beach, which was the best idea!  It’s large enough to handle a full crowd but not be on top of each other and it has a pavilion for use and access to kayak and paddle board rentals.  One thing to note it is not dog friendly.

If you’re looking for a little less action than Zephyr Cove then go immediately to Nevada Beach!  It was a great way to spend the day celebrating with friends and lucky for us to watch a really cool storm roll in!  There’s also a campground with the beach for extended beach day options!

Wear and Share Wednesday – mark. by Avon Dark Blooms Dress

Wear and Share Wednesday: mark. Dark Blooms Dress

It’s Wear and Share Wednesday!  Which means Jacki from Living After Midnite and I take the same item and style it 2 ways!  With the mark. Dark Blooms Dress ($42) you really don’t need to do much with it’s bold and big floral print, but we found a way to make it our own.  I mean really Jackie, all she needs is the dress and that Chanel purse!

Lace Blazer Over Poppy Prints

Lace Blazer Over Poppy Prints

As a working girl I immediately style most my outfits work friendly!  Playing up the lace details I layered a lace blazer from Bebe over the dress.  I cinched the waist with a wide black belt (mark.) a few accessories and some lace pumps rounded out the look.  The shift dress is very 60’s but this mark. Dark Blooms dress is a modern take… so I styled mine with some 60’s influence from my clutch to my hair!

The lace detailing around the neckline really makes this dress.  Its so pretty and delicate I don’t even need a necklace!  A statement earring in scarlet red is all that’s needed!  The Avon Scarlet Chandelier Earrings (coming soon to http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger) were the perfect red accent to the red poppies on the dress.  Stealing a little style from Lucy Hale at the Teen Choice Awards (our mark. brand ambassador) I stacked and styled the mark. My go to lace pumps (Shoedazzle) pair well with my lace cuff (gifted) all against my black satin clutch.  A little something about this clutch… it’s my mom’s from the 60’s.  As a kid I always loved it, played with it, stared at it, held it.  Then as I got older and realized it just always sat in her closet so I snatched it up.  Mom’s always had good taste!  Plus I like having the mom memento!

Dark Florals For Fall

Dark Florals For Fall

Florals are big for fall, especially dark florals.  The black background of this dress keeps it on trend while the big red poppies make it stand out.  For only $42 this dress is a must-have for your transitioning wardrobe.  It keeps you trendy and you can wear it now and wear it later with a blazer (like my black lace one!) and tights and boots!

Wanderlust August – Denio’s Farmer Market Roseville, CA

Once August hits I always feel like I haven’t done anything all summer and I need to fit it all in within the next few weeks!  Which means I’m all over the place during August, hence Wanderlust August!

Local Fresh Fruits and Veggies

Local Fresh Fruits and Veggies

First feature for the month is Denio’s Farmer Market in Roseville, CA.  A favorite for a Sunday activity!  We might always get confused on how to get there but once there we spend the day wandering around the booths.

Denio's Market

Denio’s Market

Our plan of action is start from the back and work your way to the front.  In the back is where all the “garage sale/flea market” booths are at.  In the middle are your more legit stands that carry the same things, like 2/$10 sunglasses or the booth with every possible carabiner/gadget/tool you could think of.   Then at the front is my favorite, the fresh farmers market with local farmers.  Concession stands are littered throughout for your energizing corn dog stop.

Besides walking out with bags full of fruit and veggies at the best prices in town we also ALWAYS get flavored pistachios and dried mangos with chili powder.  Not a bad way to spend a Sunday!

Mani Monday – Bridal Shower Nails with Essie Love Every Minute and She Said Yes

Every year Essie does a wedding collection, and since I am getting married in October I figured this was my year to to pick up that collection.  This last weekend involved back to back bridal showers on Saturday and Sunday so the perfect opportunity to finally bust out my Essie Wedding Collection shades Love Every Minute and She Said Yes.

Wear Now Wear Later – mark. Everything Goes Shirtdress

mark. Everything Goes Shirtdress

mark. Everything Goes Shirtdress

The problem with fall new arrivals is it’s still summer!  Lucky for me the new fall arrivals from mark. have quite a few items you can wear now and later!  I’ve already highlighted how to update your beauty (see here) but as far as fashion my top pick is this mark. Everything Goes Shirtdress ($40).  It’s the perfect wear now, wear later item!

Easy dressing with a shirtdress

Easy dressing with a shirtdress

First, let me just tell you, as a working girl how important having a shirtdress in your wardrobe is.  Not only does it work for pretty much any occasion or situation but its SUPER easy to pull off.  Just slip it on and instantly be put together.  The versatility doesn’t stop there, you can pretty much wear it with any shoe from sandals to flats to pumps to boots!  (there’s where that wear now wear later comes in).  For transitional pieces jewel tones are a perfect pick like the emerald green in this mark. Everything Goes Shirtdress.

Wear it now with nude pumps like the mark. Glitzed Out Pump (orig $64 NOW $34.99) and leopard accents (Express) and with a bright jewel tone bag like the mark. Go Royal Bag ($65).  Wear it later layered with a blazer or sweater and tights and boots!  (check the mark. Go For A Ride Boots at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger)

Roll Tab Covertable Sleeves

Roll Tab Convertible Sleeves

The soft shirt material and roll tab convertible sleeves also make it perfect for transitioning between seasons, as it cools down just unroll your sleeves!  For only $40 you can have a go-to dress for now through next spring.  I can definitely see myself dressing this dress up for the holidays with a good red lip!  You can shop the mark. Everything Goes Shirtdress ($40), Go Royal Bag ($65), Glitzed Out Pump (orig $65 NOW $34.99) and Marquis De Style Earrings ($20) and all the other new fall arrivals at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger

mark. Fall 2014 Preview and Reviews – Beauty

August is my favorite month.  Not only is it birthday month, but it’s usually when I get in a great summer trip, enjoy the hot summer days a little more and all the new fall arrivals.  Now that mark. releases their new arrivals in one large seasonal release I got a few of my favorites early.  I picked items I can wear now and transition into fall.  Beauty is the easiest way to switch up your look but still remain true to the current season so let’s start there!  mark.’s fall beauty is themed around the Wonderfleur fragrance making a cohesive collection with awesome packaging!

Word Of Alicia:  6 expertly matched eye shades that mix and match with each other to create a ton of looks all from one super portable pallet!   Almost everyone can wear plum shades and the tones on these DO NOT disappoint.  Sometimes they can run too red but these are perfect… same with the neutral shades, they’re not too brassy.  These are definitely shades you can wear now and later, plus how pretty are those floral designs!

mark. What A Line Max in Plum Gleam ($12)

Word Of Alicia:  They revamped What A Line Liquid Eyeliner to a new and improved waterproof formula and added 4 all new shades including this shade Plum Gleam.  The foam applicator tip allows for easy precision and application which I really like especially paired with the long “handle”.  With the new package design it doesn’t seem to dry out like the old version where you had to really work it each time to get enough liquid to the tip.  The wear is killer!  It lasts all day!  This swatch didn’t come off my hand until late in the evening after showering and washing my hands a million times during the day.  I also really love how this is a deep plum shade so I can replace my typical black liner with it to switch up my look and it goes PERFECTLY with the color swing pallet.

mark. Nail This Look Nail Lacquers and Bracelet-Ring Set ($28)

mark. Nail This Look Set

mark. Nail This Look Set

Word Of Alicia:  There is nothing groundbreaking about these polish shades but they are the perfect dark shades for fall.  Shady Lady is smoky plum shade (identical to a past mark. Nailed It Shade) and Plumsation is a deep deep purple.  I love the richness of the shades and how wearable they are.  I typically don’t wear darker shades like this in the summer but I had to test them out and with a shiny top coat they actually looked really nice with my summer whites and brights and the formula is spot on!  As for the bracelet-ring I wasn’t expecting much and its not the highest quality but it is SO CUTE ON!  I really was surprised how comfortable it is to wear and what a unique look.  This set is well worth it and may be my favorite pick from the bunch!

mark. Wonderfleur Eau De Toilette Spray and Body Cream ($28 – $14)

mark. Wonderfleur Fragrance

mark. Wonderfleur Fragrance

Word Of Alicia:  The full description reads:  Notes of apple blossoms, meadow dew, fresh freesia, just-picked daisies and a touch of pillowy musk.  The Alicia description reads:  Not a sweet floral but a really crisp clean floral, kind of like what you would find when you go up to the apple orchards in the morning when the dew is still wet.  Perfect for daytime wear and not to heavy for summer but has deepness to it that will transition into fall.  Layers really nice with the body cream.  I’m always expecting the worse with “cheap” fragrances but mark. never disappoints!  They really have an expert team that mixes and masters and it’s at a price point that’s way more affordable so you can wear it every day and refresh and not feel like your spraying away your dollars!

mark. Wonderfluer Collection and Packaging

mark. Wonderfleur Collection and Packaging

Final Word:  We all know I’m a sucker for packaging and the Wonderfleur collection is no exception!  It’s so pretty and fun and just inspires a wanderlust August!  I’m ready to pack these puppies up and head out for a weekend getaway or just go where the road trip takes us!  I’m ready for a something new but not quite ready to go full on fall so the beauty collection is a perfect update to my look for a little investment so I still have some $$ for a late summer outing!  All the products here will launch on August 8th (Friday) at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger along with the full fall collection from mark.!  Any of these peeked your interest?  How do you update your look for August?!

ps.  this is my 200th post!  yippie!  glad it involved some super pretty pictures and august :)

Fall Preview: The Trench Coat

There are a few things you can count on to be in style every season, every year.  The Classic Trench Coat is one of them!  This fall the trend is still that classic coat but dialed up a notch with trendy details.  Here are a few options to start your fall shopping with or at least pin onto pinterest to pick up once jacket weather starts to creep in.

mark. Classic Move Coat  $75

mark. Classic Move Coat

mark. Classic Move Coat

mark. updated the classic trench by making it black instead of tan, and added quilted leather detailing to the sleeves and shoulders.  Its still basic enough to go with everything but has enough interest to make it worth while!  I have a black trench from Express I got back in 2000 that is my GO-TO coat for fall.  Sadly, it has a rip in the back, but 14 years is a good run.  I will be replacing it with this coat.  Knowing how much a good black trench works for my wardrobe I’m pretty excited to replace it with this one.  Plus the mark. Classic Move Coat ($85) has a bit of that equestrian look with the faux quilted leather so it will goPERFECTLY with some riding boots! Years ago Ann Taylor put out a sleeveless trench that had me OBSESSING!  I never picked it up and kick myself each September when a sleeveless trench would be PERFECT to ward off the slight morning chill and still look SUPER CHIC!  This year AT updated the classic trench by making it a sleeveless dress version.  This is my pick for wear now, wear later!  I love it as a dress or draped over as a vest.

Burberry London

The ultimate in trench coats, Burberry London has the classic trench DOWN, but for fall they updated it with a textured print.  I’m loving the luxurious jacquard print which really dresses up the look.  Jacquard prints are another trend shaping up to be big for this fall/winter.

Programming Note

Just a little programming  note:  My truly beloved macbook is in the shop.  Which means all my files, pictures, etc are currently unavailable.  I had all these grand adventures and fall previews to share with you but the computer gods had a different idea.  Please bare with me until things are back to normal and I’m not trying to do everything off my gen 1 ipad or phone.

I’m usually a pretty much glass half full kind of gal but lately I swear Murphy’s Law is in full effect!  But even mentioning Murphy’s Law reminds me of my dad’s old office at the township building in Summit… like the OLD office building that was really just a garage for all the equipment with a few offices up front.  He had this Murphy’s Law sign hanging in it and as a I kid I never really understood it but had my parents try to explain it.  I’d read it again and again… thinking it was, funny?  So even in a not so fun time I’m reminded of my oh so fun dad, which puts a smile on my face.
