DIY Pumpkin Spiced Chai

DIY Pumpkin Spiced Chai

DIY Pumpkin Spiced Chai

I’m definitely not a coffee drinker, but tea, tea I do!  I like a hot beverage in the morning especially on a crisp fall morning.  I love the idea of all those cool flavored beverages that all the cool kids order, but I just can’t stomach anything coffee.  So when in doubt, turn to pinterest!  I found a recipe for a home made pumpkin spice syrup that actually turned out pretty good.  Add it to chai and Pinterest Success!!

Step 1:  Start by making the syrup.  Not only does this recipe make a ton it stores in the fridge well and you can use it plenty of other things, like apple cider or coffee.

Pumpkin Spice Syrup orig from Annie’s Eats

  • 1½ cups water
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger (or put a little nub of peeled fresh ginger root in the water as it’s cooking)
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 tsp. ginger sugar (if you don’t have any ginger sugar, you can skip this. It just adds a little extra zip to the syrup.)
  • 3 tbsp. pumpkin puree

Directions:

  1. Combine the water and sugar in a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  2.  Toss in the cinnamon sticks and cloves, then whisk in the remaining spices and the pumpkin puree.
  3. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, without letting the mixture come to a boil. If you screw up and it does accidentally come to a boil, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal — mine did and the syrup tasted fine!
  4. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth and funnel into a bottle or jar.
  6. Store in the refrigerator.
  7. Sidenote: I like to leave a cinnamon stick in the bottle/jar

Step 2:  After you have your syrup ready, prepare some chai tea.  Any brand will do, I prefer Tazo Classic Chai Tea Bags.  I personally just seep one bag in about 4-6oz of water.  Or use the “small cup” amount on your Keurig.

Step 3:  Prepare equal parts of warm milk.  You basically want half tea half milk, so if you used 4-6oz heat 4-6oz of milk.  Heating the milk separately doesn’t make it get filmy.

Step 4:  Combine tea, warm milk, and 2-3 tablespoons of the pumpkin spice syrup and mix.

And there you go!  A perfectly spicy fall drink to enjoy while lounging in your perfect fall sweater, painting your perfect pumpkin spice mani on a perfect fall day doing basic white girl fall activities!

Fall Lipstick Trends You Can Actually Pull Off

Fall Lip Trends for 2014

Fall Lip Trends for 2014

During my typical procrastination-socia- media-reading I came across this picture.  Which got me thinking, come fall, lipstick and I are “involved”.  Sometimes lipstick just feels like “too much” in the summer but come fall it feels just right especially with new formulas that are not only moisturizing, but long lasting and have a great color payoff!  Not only have I been wearing more lipstick lately but I’ve also been noticing some really big trends focused around lipstick!  Here are a few that you can actually pull off in real life, you know like work, grocery store, watching football at a friends house, the usual activities not the I’m going to a runway show activities.

Fall Lip Trend #1:  Matte

Wearing Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Matte Ruby

Wearing Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Matte Ruby ($8 on sale for $5.99!)

The staying power of a matte lip is undeniable and the key is a velvet texture not drying.  I definitely found myself with way too many matte lip products that just make me look like I have chapped lips.  I tried the Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Matte Shades and I was throughly impressed.  Here’s a trick to applying a matte lip:  Start with a lip balm! Put it on same time you moisturize, then do the rest of your makeup.  Before applying your lip shade pat it on a tissue (or your hand like I usually do because I’m lazy) to get off any excess.  Line your lips then apply your shade, blot again.  If things start to feel drying as the day goes on apply a little more balm and blot, (and more color if necessary).

Fall Lip Trend #2:  90’s Mauve

Wearing mark. All Butter Now in Bare All

Wearing mark. All Butter Now in Bare All ($11)

We’ve all kinda secretly really loved how Kylie Jenner just has nailed this trend.  It’s been on a ton of top looks, blogs, recreates, etc… but even if you don’t have a Kylie Jenner life you can recreate her look because it will probably look just as awesome in your life.  It’s a super easy color to wear that people will be looking at you thinking wow she’s so effortless!  To get that 90’s mauve go more brownish-nude and don’t go glossy, here are some suggestions:  Mac Faux, Mac Braze, NYX Round Lipstick in Thalia, or Revlon 130 Rose Velvet.  This is one of those times a good lip liner to line your lips followed by coloring them in before applying the lipstick is a good plan of action.  Some liner suggestions, Mac Whirl, NYX Nude, or Avon Ultra Luxury Liner in Neutral.

Fall Lip Trend #3:  Bold

Go bold or go home!  Bold doesn’t have to mean shocking pink or bright red.  Go with a berry or a purple which is a little more easy to wear and go with a formula that’s super pigmented!  I’ve been wearing non-stop the Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Power Plum.  It’s actually not that dark, just a nice berry bright plum.  Plums also look really great on brunettes and since we all get a little darker in the fall…

Which lipstick trend are you going to try this fall?

The Perfect Fall Sweater – mark. Chain Of Command Cardigan

The perfect fall day requires the perfect fall sweater.  Which I found in the mark. Chain of Command Cardigan ($50).  Why is this the perfect fall sweater you ask?  Let me list the reasons:

1.  Earthy fall coloring with edgy chain detailing that is totally different but also super chic and trendy.

Sequins and Chains!

Sequins and Chains!

2.  SEQUINS!  Yes!  The knit contains just the right amount of glimmering sequin littered throughout to just give you a little sparkle!  Like the sun shining through on a crisp fall day!

3.  It’s super cozy and comfy, as a perfect sweater should be.

4.    The longer length and open front allows you to wear this casually over a t-shirt dress, or with your favorite boyfriend jeans and booties.  It’s perfect for a causal cool look.

5.  You can dress it up!  This sweater is equally as chic paired with your favorite dark denim and some metallic heels, like the mark. Pumped With Vogue Heels.  The two together are the ULTIMATE fall duo!

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Pumpkin Spiced Mani

Because I’m a basic white girl and all things pumpkin and fall-tastic occupy my world lately, a pumpkin spiced mani seemed to be perfectly fitting!  I couldn’t decide what fall mani I wanted to do as I searched through my polish collection.  This Julep  polish in Brielle jumped out at me!  Since burnt orange isn’t really a color in Alicia’s favorites  (or even general likes) I’ve never used this shade.  But this time it called out to me, like “hey, I’m more pumpkin than ugly 70’s burnt orange, and I’m perfect for fall!”

Sweater Weather (mark. Chain Of Command Cardigan)

To spice up the creamy pumpkin orange color in Julep Brielle I added a rose gold stripe on the sides in Essie Penny Talk.  The perfect pumpkin spice mani for a sweater weather kind of day.  I’m super excited to sport this October perfect mani for a trip to the pumpkin patch, or just sipping some pumpkin spiced chai (recipe to come!), either way it’s a winner.

Bridal Mani/Pedi Party

Bridal Mani/Pedi Party

My #tahoeweddingfestHD (aka wedding weekend) went by too fast but at least it can live forever in memories and pictures!  One of my favorite parts of the weekend was the Friday before my sister organized a day at the nail salon with the maides!  We were able to relax, talk and enjoy some time together before the rehearsal later that night and get the ultimate mani, my wedding nails!

Cute little invites for a bridal mani/pedi party!

Cute little invites for a bridal mani/pedi party!

I knew I wanted to do a classic red mani for my wedding but it needed to be a fall red to go with the rest of my details.  While planning the invites my sister and I thought it would be a good idea to include a bottle of nail polish so I picked out Avon Speed Dry Polish in Red Wine and not only was it super cute for the invites it was also the perfect fall red for wedding manis and pedis!

Red Lace, Glitter and a Pedi!

Red Lace, Glitter and a Pedi!

Since we all like a good party, my sister glittered up some champagne bottles (and sparkling cider for me and my prego Caroline!), brought some cheese and crackers and chocolate covered strawberries to make our salon trip a #tahoeweddingfestHD pre wedding party!

Black and White Glittered Champaign and Cider

Black and White Glittered Champaign and Cider

Like with any good party you need a good party dress and my red lace dress from eShakti was a crowd favorite! eShakti approached me if I was interested in trying them out and I have heard of them from Jackie at Living After Midnight but I guess I didn’t really get it.  They let you customize your dress!  Coming from a girl who’s 5 foot nothing with curves this means EVERYTHING!  Start with picking your dress (or more realistically your shell).  Then you can adjust the neckline, sleeves, hem, etc to match not only the look you’re going for but how you want it to fit.  I personally like lower necklines and I wanted longer sleeves (since I was in the cooler temps) so I selected to change my dress to have a deep V neckline and 3/4th sleeves.  I then entered in my height so the length of the dress hit me where it was actually suppose to not below the knee like most off the rack dresses do.  You could also enter in your exact measurements if you like, but I just went with my general sizing.

With eShakti I got the exact dress I wanted and didn’t have to just deal with it being 90% there.  This is the greatest idea ever!  Check them out you won’t be disappointed.  My red lace dress was the perfect fit not just size wise but also for my theme and my bridal mani/pedi party!  OH and did I mention it had pockets, any dress with pockets is a winner!  The day couldn’t of gone better thanks to eShakti and my sister for planning the perfect Bridal Mani/Pedi Party!!!

Hello Autumn Equinox!  If today’s Wear and Share Wednesday doesn’t make you a little glad it’s officially fall, then I don’t know what will!  Jackie from Living After Midnite and I are taking one perfect-for-fall piece, the mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt ($28) and styling it two ways!

In no way shape or form am I a casual person.  Sweatshirts for me are for lounging at home (aka not in public) and for Penn State games (because its freakin cold in PA).  However, leave it to mark. to make one that’s cut like a cute top with an interesting detail, an asymmetrical zipper!

Inspired by all those cool girls on Pinterest, I thought a casual glam way to wear this mark. Effortless Edge Sweatshirt ($28) was to pair it with a sequin mini skirt!  I love creamy neutrals together so this Sequined High Waist Skirt from Express that my mom got me for my birthday was the perfect fit!  Unzipping the zipper on the sweatshirt opens it up just enough to let the sequin skirt shine though.

To accessorize a casual glam look you don’t need much.  A nice boyfriend watch is really all you need, like this Avon Signature Boyfriend watch.  I, of course, took it further with a leopard bangle (Express, old) and the mark. Show Id Bracelet ($24).  Finished off with the mark. Ring For More Stackable Rings ($20) and a neutral clutch from Express (old).

How To Wear Sequins For Daytime

The mark. Effortless Edge sweatshirt is a perfect pick to update your fall wardrobe.  What I love most about it is I finally found a way to wear sequins for daytime.  It’s the perfect mix of relaxed casual with everyday chic.  I didn’t feel overdressed for daytime and I was super comfortable in this outfit.  I think I might of found a new closet go-to!

5 Ways To Wear An Infinity Scarf from Day To Night

1 Infinity Scarf Worn 5 Ways

1 Infinity Scarf Worn 5 Ways

Happy first day of fall!  Even though I’m forever a summer child, I’m officially now ok with busting out a scarf (over a tank), lighting a pumpkin candle (like the current favorite Pumpkin Pecan Waffles from B&BW) and stepping into some booties (preferably peep-toed).  Fall adds a layer of cozy to your life as the days get shorter and cooler.  The best way to combat that is with a scarf.  I’m currently LOVING the mark. All Around Style Scarf ($18 on sale for only $10 with a qualifying purchase at http://www.youravon.com/aliciahessinger).  It’s the perfect balance of fun and fall, and super versatile for changing weather and functions.  Here are 5 different ways to style your infinity scarf using the mark. All Around Style Scarf.

1.  SHRUG

Infinity Scarf As A Shrug

Infinity Scarf As A Shrug

As you start your day it can be pretty chilly in the mornings so start it off by wearing your infinity scarf as a shrug.  Just open it up so its the full circle the slip it around your shoulders.  Done.

2.  One Shoulder

As the morning starts to warm up switch it from a shrug to a one shoulder cover up.  Wrap it around your neck twice then pull to one side, fluff and tuck as need be.

3.  The OG

The OG way (original gangsta for the urban impaired) is my favorite way.  Simple, to the point, keeps the chill off and shows off the full pattern of the scarf.  It’s perfect for the mid day.

4.  Halter Top

Infinity Scarf As A Halter

The day has warmed up and its time to head out to happy hour which means time to step up the outfit!  Take the scarf fully open and let it hang from your neck.  Next twist it once so they sides cross over each other.  Take the open loop and flip it around your head and shoulders and put your arms through the loops created.  Adjust it to your liking.  I personally opened it up more around the chest and tucked the “straps” to keep them slim.

5.  Kimono-Like

As the night cool creeps in and you start to get a little chilly transition your infinity scarf to almost a reverse shrug for a kimono-like look.  All you do is open it to its full size wide in one giant loop and wrap around your shoulders.  It’s like wrapping yourself in your own scarf blanket!
